I have a confession.
I’m not perfect.
I’m a recovering co-dependent and control freak, I have battled depression, self-loathing, self-sabatoge, and more insecurities than I can count.
Or at least I used to be. I’m not anymore. I have moments when I feel like I’m falling apart (like when my husband moved out), but the reality is I am a force to be reckoned with.
I remember the first time someone wanted to hire me as a mentor. I almost laughed in their face. It was four or five years ago. Then I remember the first time I actually agreed to be a mentor. It was a super scary moment. I had too much baggage to believe I had anything worth sharing.
Besides, I wasn’t perfect. I had a million kids, my house was a mess, I was the worst meal planner, and I was overweight.
And I thought that anyone who wasn’t perfect had no business trying to help other people through their struggles.
I’m not even going to get into the mental gymnastics necessary for me to think that perfection was even attainable, but what on earth kind of self-loathing must I have been dealing with to think that I had NOTHING to offer anyone else? The truth is I was scared. Scared of stepping into my potential. I didn’t want the responsibility. I didn’t want to do the work. So I told myself I wasn’t “qualified”. That I didn’t have what it takes.
I really wanted to help! Supporting other women is my life’s mission and I’ve known that for over a decade. I just needed to get my act together first.
Becoming who we are meant to be is a continual process. It’s like peeling back the layers of an onion, except with human beings, the layers never stop. And that should excite us! I love the idea that I can keep growing, keep learning, keep being better. I love the fact that I never have to stop and say, “now what?”.

But we stop ourselves. We tell ourselves we aren’t good enough. We convince ourselves that we aren’t important enough, or that we have too much responsibility and not enough time to do what it takes to be the person we want to be.
The truth is that we are scared.
Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate. Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure. It is our light, not our darkness, that most frightens us. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people won’t feel insecure around you. We are all meant to shine as children do. It’s not just in some of us; it is in everyone. And as we let our own lights shine, we unconsciously give other people permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. ~Marianne Williamson
You are meant for great and exciting things. And you are meant to be happy. God, the universe, or whatever higher power you believe in wants you to be happy and in order for you to be happy, you have to be who you were meant to be! But you are scared, lost, and more than a little overwhelmed. You see a vague outline of who that future you is, and have no idea how to get there and are a more than a little afraid of the process.
The path to excellence doesn’t have to be scary. The path to excellence doesn’t have to be lonely. You just need a friend to hold your hand along the way.
I can be that friend. I am that friend.
Girl, I want to help you be the person you know you have it in you to become. I want to hold your hand as you break out of your cocoon and help you spread your wings!
