My take on Brita

I must preface this by saying that, while I am concerned about the quality of our water, I’m not NEARLY as concerned as having absolutely pure H2O as some people.  In fact, I may go as far as to say I’m more concerned with taste than anything else.  That being said…

Alamo water sucks.  And I’m not saying that just because the water from our well in Maine was beyond awesome.  I’m saying that because it REALLY sucks.  Like stagnant, tainted pool water.  It’s so bad, that I have taken to drinking MILK when I’m thirsty when we run out of bottled water.

Since we can’t afford to shell out $500 + for a reverse osmosis machine that needs to be professionally installed and probably can’t take with us when we move, Matt and I were resigned to the fact that we would be buying our water for the duration.  I even have been looking into water coolers.

I have been reluctant to buy a pitcher filter because, frankly, I have my doubts as to whether or not something as cheap as a Brita can get the terrible, horrible, no good, very bad taste out.

But I figured I’d give it a shot.  Worse case scenario, we’re out 30 bucks.  Best case (though highly unlikely) the water is palatable enough that we don’t have to spend $175 for a water cooler with lock and then buy the water 5 gallons at a time on top of that.

The verdict:

Brita, I love you.  I am absolutely amazed.  It’s not as good as our well in Maine, but W.O.W!  Not only is it palatable, it’s every bit as good as the water I have had to buy the last few weeks.

We’re going to have to get another Brita (because we go through an insane amount of water, though probably not nearly as much as the Beauchamps :), but since we don’t have to pay for water on base, we are going to save a bundle!

Check out Berkey. They are the best and will get out anything, plus, even better than Reverse osmosis and much cheaper and you can even take it camping with you! Just type in Berkey in Google, several suppliers sell it. Enjoy

This post reminds me how blessed we are for our well water. Thanks! I'm glad the Brita is working.I hope you got some rest yesterday and that you got some chocolate! :-)

Yay!! Here's another idea. We used to use Brita and liked it but with having to constantly buy the replaceable filters the cost really adds up fast. Then we bought a water purifier that is AWESOME!! Diane sells them, and they rock! They are used at disaster sites and they clean out everything! We bought ours 6 years ago and haven't had to replace our ceramic filters in it yet!! It's $300, but in 6 years we would have spent more than that on Brita, AND it's HUGE, much bigger than Brita, or even two Brita's (which adds up to more cost with the replaceable filters- which by the way need replacing kinda often). Check it out!
