What we've been up to (picture overload)

-Alice is four months old!  While she and I get along SO much better than we did at first, she’s still a very high maintenance gal.  That’s ok though, I like maintaining her :)  But that does account for my lack of blogging :)

-I signed the kids up for parkour lessons at the local gymnastics studio… WIN!  They get to climb on things

Spencer has been in heaven.  The dude in the camo is there teacher.  No, he’s not a weirdo… it was Halloween :)

While the three older kids play and jump around, the three younger kids and I watch them through the windows (well, I alternate between watching them and reading.  The little boys watch Arthur on PBS… is it just me or is DW a pain in the behind?).

-We went on a three mile family hike that took six hours to complete.  It was a lot of fun but next time we will go with something a little less strenuous.  They were all thrilled to use their camelbacks.  We were sweaty and worn out but I was so proud of the boys!  They didn’t complain about being tired once!

Spencer was in his element and we just let him climb and run all he wanted :)

Jack was possibly my favorite subject to photograph because he just looked so cute with his little backpack.

I’ve been teaching Lucy how to use my camera too and she got a few good shots as well.

We got to the ruins of an abandoned castle and ate our picnic lunch.

-We bought some desks at the garage sale next door for $9 a pop (including chairs) and refinished the tops.  Lucy quickly outgrew hers and took over mine so I brought up our tiny newlywed kitchen table from the basement and have been using that.  Our school room looks very much like a school room now… much to my chagrin (the kids love it though, so I can’t complain too much).

Jack likes to play school as well.  He gets to use fancy pens and scribble in his coloring books :)

-Got a membership to the local science museum (it’s nice when you have a big family, sometimes one visit is the same price as an annual membership!)  The Monkeys were my favorite :)

Turning twelve includes a few benefits, including graduating from Primary and going to Young Women’s, going to the temple, and working out at the gym with Mom.  All she wanted for her birthday was a gym bag :)

-I started taking violin lessons with Emma and piano lessons with Lucy (though Lucy was already taking piano, so I have to catch up)

You make life look so good! Those school desks are to die for. I love them! I love the pics but the last one of Alice is completely adorable! I can’t believe Lucy is twelve and going to the Gym. How fun! I love reading about and seeing your life. It’s so wonderful.

    Hi Courtney,
I loved all the pictures! I know what you mean about blogging less when babies come along– I am so there!

I just had to comment on the desks. There is this idea perpetuated among homeschoolers that setting up schoolrooms with desks is a bad thing, but for us, our homeschool works better when the kids have their own workspaces. I finally embraced that fact after feeling guilty for too long. LOL! :-)

    I really enjoyed this update!

    Hugs,
    Mama Rachel

    1. It’s growing on me :) It’s funny how we sometimes bristle at anything that resembles the things that we consciously reject. But they are certainly helpful and it doesn’t really change my style of teaching, just where my kids keep their mess ;)
