Matt has been selected by the Air Force to attend a six year Oral Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) residency program!
The board met on Friday and he was notified of their decision yesterday (which was really quick, we didn’t expect to know anything before the end of the month). They filled up all 16 spots for both the class that starts in 2012 and 2013. So apparently they had a lot of good applicants.
On his application Matt specified that his first choice would be to attend a six year AFIT (Air Force Institute of Technology) program for 2012 and that is exactly what we got!
Since the Air Force has only four year programs, they will pay to have him attend a six year civilian residency (which is what AFIT means apparently).
So we don’t know where we are going yet or how it is decided where we go. We don’t know if he has to go through the match program or if he just has to say “I want to go here” and the AF makes it happen (I kind of hope it’s the latter). But I’ll let you know as soon as we know 🙂
