First Snow

We had our first snow today. Today’s rehearsal was canceled yesterday so I didn’t have to worry about driving in the snow. It started at midnight and it’s still going now at 9:30 pm. We woke up and Emma ran around screaming “Merry Cismas, a Merry Cismas!” Lucy immediately asked to go outside and play. It was all I could do to get a warm breakfast in them. Emma got snow pants for her birthday, so I let Lucy open hers early. After Matt went to work, I got everyone all bundled up and we all went outside. We had a snow ball fight. The girls made snow angels, Sophie ran around and tried to eat all of the snow that we threw. Katie tried her hardest to stay under cover, but that didn’t work very well.

After a while we went back inside and all drank hot cocoa. We couldn’t have been out for more than 1/2 hour, but poor Spencer’s face is chapped. I’ll have to put vaseline on his cheeks next time. He seemed to like it anyway.

Matt came home for the day around 11:30. I guess he didn’t have any afternoon patients. I ran 5 miles on the treadmill today. I don’t think I’ve run that much since Spencer was born. I know I’ve done around 4.5, but not 5. It felt good to run for a decent amount of time. Too often I get on the treadmill for 20 minutes and then call it a day. I know that’s not nearly enough but sometimes I’m just not up to any more than that. But I started running at 4 in the afternoon and that seems to make all of the difference. First thing in the morning is just too early. I’m sluggish and my blood sugar is way too low for a decent workout. I can get through about three times as much if I wait until the late afternoon. Everyone has to find their own trick.

We made rice crispy treats for dessert and danced around the kitchen to Christmas music after dinner. Even Sophie got into it. She grabbed one of her dolls and threw it around to dance. I tried to teach Lucy “the Elaine”. Then we all snuggled up to watch “A Muppet Christmas Carol”. We got through about 1/2 hour before Lucy asked to go to bed. You know your child is tired when…

Speaking of a Christmas Carol. Matt went to rehearsal with me yesterday. It was the first time we went through the whole show since starting. After the first act I went over to talk to him during our break. He said ” Courtney, I’m torn. I really don’t like how much you are gone… but you are REALLY good!” Maybe this won’t be my first and last after all 🙂 It is a lot of fun to do, but it is a lot of time. I’m gone almost every night and sometimes I barely have time to breathe. But it’s just something that I have to do. It’s something I have always dreamed of. I certainly don’t want to be one of those people who are in every show and that’s all they do, but when Les Miserables is released to the community theaters I will be the first in line to audition. They have already started releasing abridged versions to schools, so it’s only a matter of time.
