Let it Go {Review and Giveaway}

A few years ago, I remember sitting at my computer reading the news and hearing about a man in Utah who had just lost half of his family (including his wife and an unborn son) in a car accident.  He and most of his family had been coming home from a family outing when they were hit by 17 year old drunk driver.  I remember being heartbroken for the man and yet also grateful that he was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints.  Through the press conferences and interviews that followed it was clear that he knew that the separation from his beloved wife and children was only temporary.  I was also inspired by his complete ability to forgive the young man who had been the instrument of their deaths.
I just finished reading Let it Go: A True Story of Tragedy and Forgiveness by the very man who experienced that horrific event.  I was impressed with Chris at the time that the story broke.  After reading his memoir and the reasoning behind his actions, I am inspired at his humility.  Chris didn’t forgive the young man because he had some great ability to forgive, but because he was aware of who he was and that he was also a sinner.  He had no right to hold a grudge against anyone because forgiveness was not his to extend.

“I the Lord will forgive whom I will forgive, but of you it is required to forgive all men.”

It was a privilege for me to read about Chris’s path to healing and I’m so grateful that he was able to share his experiences with me.
As I revisited this story I couldn’t help but compare his family with mine.  He had four children and his wife had been five months pregnant with their fifth.  I thought about what would happen to Matt if something happened to Emma, Spencer, the baby and I.  I wondered how my children would cope with my absence and I recommitted myself to let my children know daily how much I love them and grateful I am to be their mother.  In the hustle and bustle of our daily lives I need to remember to take the time to continually teach them the things of eternal significance.  Our Heavenly Father’s Plan of Happiness and Salvation, the eternal nature of the family and the worth of all souls need to be lessons I incorporate on a daily basis.
This video is just the tip of the iceberg.  When you read the book you will learn so much more about how the Lord prepared him to live through this tragedy and serve as an instrument in the hand of the Master.

It is my privilege to offer one of you a copy of this book.  I hope it will inspire you as much as it inspired me.
